You could do what the company I work for did – my compensation is split 50% hourly pay and 50% commissions. Two years ago the company implemented a policy that requires us to complete 2 hours of training per pay period. Failure to do so results in forfeiting the commission potion of our paycheck for that month. If you are on vacation or sick, you get two weeks to make up the missed training. At the beginning of every year we are required to sign a compensation agreement acknowledging we are in agreement with this policy. Failure to sign results in no more job. EVERYONE completes the required training every pay period.

In reply to Kathleen Callahan Jarosik. Kathleen more training makes them better technicians which makes your business better. We require 40hrs per year of continuing education. Out of 4 technicians and myself, there is only one person who barely makes that. Our industry requires us to be at the top of the game, especially as independent shops that literally see EVERYTHING . Have you asked the technicians why they aren’t motivated to go?? Let’s chat!
