When I first went into business out of college , our NYS wholesalers association was very active. Great speakers like Vin Waterhouse addressed current hot button issues. We would have great annual meetings in nice locations like Cooperstown, Saratoga etc where we could bring the wives who looked forward to getting away. We all need to get away to work “on the business” vs just working “in the business” . It was a great tool to help me be a better business owner and advance my career. . My advice is start with smaller dinners or lunches with a dynamic speaker addressing hot current issues and build from there . Great discussion! Thanks for sharing ! Rick

I think I look at it this way. If I spend $1000 per year on supporting memberships for our profession and the people within it, I’m solidifying my future and future talent for my company. No brained.

Locally there is very little activity with associations, but I’m grateful for those active elsewhere that put on training events.

Trade Associations are guiding, training and fighting for our rights to stay in business.

The associations are amazing and filled with great people but it comes down to the energy that’s generated from the local levels. If the shops share a common bond over any subject matter, it will succeed. If there is no commonality or purpose, probably not. Doesn’t matter how big the national organizations. Every profession suffers from the same thing.
