• Members who join MWACA receive $25 off every weekend and power-pass registration now through December 31. Cost is only $275 a year.
• Shutting down the shop and bringing the entire team.
• Something for everyone on the schedule. Any input on technology and the use of tablets. Planning ahead makes it feasible.
• Allow the team to pick their classes and review together with the owner, and collaborate with the foreman. Sending the whole shop allows you to divide and conquer more classes and grow together. Test out diagnostic tools ahead of purchasing. Look through the entire vendor list so you have a plan. 
• Bring Tablet or laptop- tablets are also available $140 for purchase, also notebooks will be handed out
• The schedule is still changing with some new additions. They will come online once finalized and attendees who have already registered will receive an email with the new classes. • Taurayi Raymond Sewera
• Became an Automotive Technician since 1996 for 19yrs as a self-taught tech.
• Attended first professional training at Vision Hi-Tech Training in Kansas city USA in 2017
• Attained first ASE certification in 2017 after attending Vision.
• Now has 30 ASE certifications including, 3 Master Technician, Advanced Level Specialist,L1, L2, L3 and X1
• Became the first and only African ACDC certified Master Technician in Hybrid & Electric vehicles in 2019.

Why

• Would like to change lives in Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole through automotive technology training
• There is currently NO automotive technology training institution in Zimbabwe
• Zimbabwean Government recently banned the importation of used vehicles that are 10yrs and older to this current date, which has raised the demand for technicians who is trained in current technology.
• The formal employment rate is currently just around 10% in Zimbabwe.
• 90% of people are not formally employed but rely on informal trading.
• 70% of unemployed constitute youths that is 35yrs and below
• Would like to empower woman more as I was inspired by my mother’s story
• My mother’s resilience and perseverance has motivated me to help woman become empowered through automotive training programs we will offer at IIATT.
• The Iconic Nelson Mandela wants said, “ Education is the most powerful tool you can use to change the world”  he also said “ The power of education extends beyond the development of skills we need for economic success” 

HOW

• We going to achieve this goal through the funding needed to build the school.
• We have opened a Go-Fund-Me page for well-wishers to donate to this great cause and change hundreds of thousands of lives in Zimbabwe.
• We have already covered about 70% of this whole project as we have bought most of the hand tools and some of the equipment, also bought the land on which this school is going to be built.  

WHERE

• International Institute of Automotive Technology Training will be built in a low-density suburb called Mandara in the capital city Harare, Zimbabwe.

WHEN

• International Institute of Automotive Technology Training will be built as soon as we raise enough money to begin construction and will be ready for enrolment in as early 3 weeks after completion of necessary rooms to start the training programs.

Scott Brown is an ASE Master Certified Automobile Technician with over three and a half decades of professional service industry experience. He and his wife own Connie & Dick’s Service Center Inc., a 57-year-old independent shop in Southern California.

With a strong focus on engine performance and electronics, Scott began collaborating with other industry professionals, online, beginning in the early 90’s. Since 1995, he has been an instrumental resource in the development of the largest online community of automotive service professionals, the International Automotive Technicians Network — iATN where he once served as company president. Chris Cloutier is co-owner of Golden Rule Auto Care in Dallas Texas and CEO of Auto Tex Me. • Change does not come all at once like a waterfall. It is iterative. Incremental. Agile. Put into practice and see if it works.

• Ask them for solutions to their problems
• Be empathetic if you lay someone off
• Explain that you did not save enough money for a rainy day
• Be truthful and learn to lead. Be transparent

Happy New Year everyone. Here’s to growth and success in all we do in 2020. Although I have served my 4 years as president, I have a few things to talk about and Sheri Hamilton, Executive Director, told me she would make it happen.

One of my prime goals is to find ways to continue funding scholarships for students, current technicians, and managers. These are close to my heart as Dave DeCourcey, Harvey Chan, and Ed Schaeffer were all good friends, and I feel it is not only appropriate but necessary, to honor their memories with scholarships. In addition, I have followed the careers of several of our previous student scholarship recipients and am overjoyed by the success that many of them have experienced.

This is the reason we created the Technicians of Tomorrow Educational Foundation (TTEF). Our eventual goal is to have several self-sustaining scholarships funded by you. Typically, $20,000 to $25,000 is needed to endow a scholarship that pays out $1,000 every year, so you can see that we will need to raise the stakes if we want to continue awarding four $1000 student scholarships, the Ed Schaeffer Memorial Scholarship, the Dave DeCourcey Scholarship, and the Harvey Chan Memorial Scholarship each year.

The TTEF is a 501(c)(3) organization, so any contributions should be tax-deductible. I urge you to write a check to TTEF for whatever amount you can afford (and a little more). We also have the silent auction in cooperation with VISION, so if you have an item that may have value to anyone else, please donate it to the silent auction to benefit the scholarship fund.

I mentioned an endowment above, and that is a fantastic method of funding the foundation. If you would like to have one of our student scholarships sponsored by your company, you can send a check for $1,000 and note that you would like to help present the “XYZ Company TTEF Scholarship” at our Celebration of Independents on Saturday evening of VISION. If you send a check for $20,000 made out to TTEF, we’ll let you help present the award for several years!

Our industry needs young people that want to be in the auto repair business, and this is one of the best ways for you to help get some people in the door. Please consider writing a check to TTEF for $1,000 or $20,000 or whatever amount you can contribute. Also, make a donation to the silent auction.
