Carm with G Jerry Truglia, President TST

Since being in the aftermarket for fifty years, Pierre Respaut has a steep history as an automotive shop owner, dealership mechanic/technician and trainer.

Pierre worked at BMW and Ferrari dealerships and owned “Ultimate Cars”, a BMW specialty repair shop for 30 years. After he closed the shop he was recruited to help improve a VW dealership from 2010-2012. 

Pierre was also a contract trainer for Bosch and is involved in various capacities, with STS, TST, the BIMRS tech and support groups (BIMRS.ORG). Our interview covered his role as VP of the Board os TST: Technicians Service Training a 501(c) (3) corporation.

Pierre tells the story of how TST got started as an off shoot of STS from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The Northeast chapter was doing so well they continued under the guidance of G Jerry Truglia.

While at the 14th Annual Big Event in Tarrytown, NY, I had the opportunity to interview Pierre and talk about the TST event. We also highlighted his storied career. He shares many great stories including the one about being a red line driver for his BMW customers to be sure the car delivers top performance.

John Anello started a Mobile Automotive Diagnostic in 1991 providing technical support & services for automotive Repair & Body shops in Northern New Jersey. These services include diagnostics on Engine Management systems as well as all other on-board control systems.

Scope of his business.
Today John services close to 1200 Repair Shops, 500 Body Shops and 100 Transmission specialists in his service area. His services include Onsite Control Module Programming with, John says, a guarantee of Same Day / Next Day service. John works by appointment only and says that there are no guessing games with his pinpoint tactics.

He subscribes yearly to 20+ automobile manufacture subscriptions in order to be current on all of his diagnostic equipment covering all mainstream  vehicles on the road today.

Legacy: Working at dealership.
John Anello’s passion for automotive vehicles has driven him to work on cars for close to 40 years. He started out as a mechanic and later as an engine re-builder in his first 6 years in the automotive industry. He later moved onto a GM dealership for 5 years where he climbed the technician corporate ladder to become an “A” Technician and when he decided to start his own business “Auto Tech On Wheels” (ATOW)

Factory level diagnostics.
Currently John provides factory level diagnostics with 20+ OEM PC based scan tools supporting vehicles up to 2015. These services cover the diagnostics of many operating systems as well as providing remote programming of on-board controllers through the use of factory subscriptions. John has personally diagnosed well over 70,000 vehicles.

He loves to write and teach.
He’s also authored a book “Automotive Computer Diagnostics” and written numerous articles for Motorage, Motor, and Mastertech Mag automotive magazines. John loves to write and teach in the industry. You can also see John’s training on You Tube.

“You never grow old until you stop learning”. Henry Ford

I took a ‘Road Trip’ and drove about 350 miles (one way) to attend the 13th Annual Big Event, an all-day technician training seminar hosted by TST, that brings its members nationally known instructors and state of the art training. I was sure impressed with the turn out and the quality of the instruction. There were technicians from 14 different states and two countries.

TST (Technicians Service Training) is a 501(c) (3) educational not-for-profit group of dedicated technicians, shop owners and instructors committed to the continuing education of our fellow technicians. TST brings their members nationally known instructors and state of the art training.

TST is an international organization with members in four continents, chapters in four different states, and holds webcast and leader-lead on-sight training for thousands of technicians every year. Web site information is at the end of the show notes.

Besides being impressed with the lineup of instructors and training provided, in Fishkill, New York, (in the Hudson valley) my mission was to learn about this event and interview a few of the attendees. The show includes interviews with four technicians and then a recap with TST president G Jerry Truglia. (You’ve heard G previously on Episode 70 & 90). Jerry’s hospitality was top notch and he was an unbelievable host not only to me, but to every technician who attended.
