RR 205: Chris Monroe from Monroe Tire & Service in Shelby, NC
Chris Monroe is a second-generation business owner with a balance of tire and automotive service for 30 years. Since 1974, the grass roots tire shop found its way to being a full service provider at a steady pace. Over the last 30 years the business has gone from a 3 bay to a 9 bay shop on the same property.
Chris went through a major renovation in 2004, both in his business and personal life.
Monroe has involved himself in associations such as North Carolina Tire Dealers, and the Tire Industry Association (TIA). These memberships have allowed him the opportunity to interact and learn from the industries best! He continues to learn through networking, trade associations and staying up to date on the industry periodicals and of course this podcast.
He is passionate about our industry and the future as technology changes the landscape. Chris feels that industry change paves the way for many opportunities that we are slowly uncorking. He is an active participant in improving our industry image and training through networking and mentoring.
He is on the advisory council of Crest High School and is involved with NATEF. Chris has helped create an internship that allows students an up close and personal engagement with several different business models.
Chris has been Principal for a day and is a big Mike Rowe Fan. His ‘give back’ is engaging the up and coming generation while letting them in on just how cool our industry really is.
We all struggle with work/life balance, but engaging in several outside activities such as motorcycling, racquetball and road cycling, keeps Chris active while helping change the focus of the day to day. He likes to call it “helmet time”. Usually when a helmet is on, it takes all the focus.
Chris purchased the building next door in 2015 and remodeled it into a state of the art “Drivers Lounge”. Use the new Google Interior 360 view to take a virtual tour! Google Interior 360 View Link
Since Chris has posted the 360 views, it has come in very handy to share and show vendors, customers and create a credibility that we are trying very hard to improve in our industry.
